OK, so you've got a design, you've got a choice of colour, shading
and size but who's going to do your tattoo? Choosing your tattoo artist
is one of the most important decisions you will make.
Your tattooist will practice his or her own hygiene routine and will
be responsible not only for the quality of your finished tattoo but
also for giving you sound aftercare advice and as comfortable an experience
as possible.
The bottom line when choosing your tattoo artist ;
Prepare
your questions well in advance and if there's anything your not
comfortable with or don't understand, speak up or walk away! You
must be able to communicate with your chosen tattoo artist.
Don't
be afraid to ask about the equipment and sterilising practices (if
they don't like it, just leave!) it's your health and happiness at
stake here!
Ask
questions! Find out about the machine they use, how long they have
been tattooing, what inks they use & why etc.
Take
a long look at the artists portfolio (if it's not available, don't
go through with a tattoo), it's never far away from the professional
artist and should refelct your expectations.
Talk
about what you expect the result to be like. Provide examples from
the portfolio or printed examples of your own. You may use the same
words as your tattoo artist but it may mean something different to
you both!
